Busy Bean Coffee

Date

April 2023

This project was made in my Identity class. Throughout the class, we were charged with developing a brand identity based on student ideas; I went with Busy Bean. We also had to create identity system applications alongside a brand identity manual.

The Busy Bean logo is a simple graphic of a coffee bean with bold white letters for the name. It comes in several variations, including a black-and-white version and one with black text. There's also a variation where the text and the bean graphic are separate entities next to each other.

I decided to make some 3D packaging for my first identity system application. I went with a branded coffee cup with matching sleeves and branded bags. The bags have the logo on them and come in brown and white. A special sticker designed to seal the bag reads "Thank You." The coffee cups also have the logo and a puff of smoke from the bean, symbolizing the bean is busy and moving. The puff of smoke reads, "This coffee belongs to ___," which is where the person's name and order would go. In addition, I made a couple of stickers for both the brand logo and the company mascot: a very tired and busy bean heading to work.

For my second identity system application, I decided to test my drawing skills and make some environmental graphics of what the store would look like. The intent behind Busy Bean was that it would be a smaller coffee shop. As such, the design is based on an Insomniac Cookies near my college. the exterior would depend on location, but should always feature the logo on and above the door, with store hours clearly visible. I also added the mascot to the front with the idea that he walks in the door, exhausted and parched, then leaves with a coffee, happy and refreshed. I also designed the store interior, as seen from multiple angles. There isn't much inside besides the register and the coffee brewer; the store is intended for customers to grab their coffee and leave. The interior is primarily made of shades of brown, with one side of the wall featuring a pattern motif with the bean graphic.
