Scott Pilgrim Alternative Book Cover

This was a project for my Typography class. For this assignment, I created a book cover design, including the spine and back cover, in Indesign. This project aimed to discover how to use typography to convey meaning through typesetting and invention.

I chose the redesigned "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" with the idea that it would be a compilation of all the volumes into one big collection. Since Scott Pilgrim draws a lot of inspiration from video games, I decided to give the book cover pixelated type. I also took heavy design cues from the original NES boxes, like having a black background and panels from the book displayed on the back cover as if they were screenshots from gameplay. I also added a bunch of small white squares to make it look like space; this was a popular theme among old-school video games.
