Comic Sans Timeline

This was a project I made in my Advanced Typography class. For this assignment, we researched the history of a singular font, from its creation to its many notable uses, and then created a poster timeline of all the noteworthy events.

I had trouble finding a suitable font with enough substance to discuss. Eventually, I decided to go with Comic Sans as a joke, but what started as a funny idea eventually led me down a long road of fascinating discoveries, from its incredible creation to its bizarre legacy. However, once the research was done, I had to figure out how to present it.

Initially, my timeline had two central ideas; one was a design based on gaudy early 90s websites, such as the infamous Space Jam website. The other was a comic book panel design, as a nod to the typeface's origins, with each panel containing a different era of the typeface's lifespan. While I was mostly set on making the website design, I eventually went with the comic book design as it would be much easier for the viewer to read through the information. Each piece of information is presented through different speech doubles, with a header denoting which year this takes place in the timeline. Next to each speech bubble is an image related to the information presented.
